Custom Software Development: From Idea to Production in Four Steps

custom-softwarearchitecturestrategyguide

A custom software project moves forward in four steps: design the architecture, decide with data, build in releases, and sustain trust through security and traceability. At Xcapit, a software development company based in Córdoba, Argentina, that path guides every project, with artificial intelligence, blockchain and cybersecurity as its foundation.

1. Design: an architecture that grows with the project

Design determines how many people, assets and processes a system can support. One example is the solar energy traceability platform we developed, through the Blockchain Lab at UTN Facultad Regional Villa María (National Technological University), for a major energy company in Córdoba. The community solar park has 828 kWp and 1,656 panels, and generates energy equivalent to the consumption of more than 450 homes.

The architecture separates three functions into three tokens: participation in the project, return on the energy fed into the grid, and sustainability attributes. Every 1,000 sustainability tokens issue a certificate that accounts for 1 MWh, unique and verifiable. Thanks to that modularity, the solution is now expanding to three more parks.

2. Decide with data

Once the architecture is defined, decisions rest on data. In the transformer digital twin prototype we developed for an energy company, we combined the IEC 60076-7 engineering standard, which estimates each unit's real capacity based on ambient temperature, with machine learning models chosen unit by unit. The result helps plan when to rotate, replace or add a transformer.

In financial inclusion, a pilot of credit cards backed by stablecoin collateral, developed together with a card issuer, reached 16 people, and 81% activated their card within 30 days. The collateral sits in a smart contract that enforces the agreed terms, and by making regular payments each person builds their credit history.

3. Build: tools in the hands of those who run the operation

Building means delivering versions people use. Shelter, our cash assistance distribution infrastructure that uses SMS as its channel, lets you configure eligibility, schedules and amounts once and then run them automatically. Every disbursement is tracked on a real-time dashboard, and reports are ready for donor audits. In pilots on other continents, 319 people received assistance.

4. Trust: security and traceability by design

Trust is sustained through concrete decisions in every release. OrchestAI, our AI governance platform, routes each query across several models according to the defined strategy (lowest cost or local processing first, for example) and signs every action, chaining it to the previous one, so external auditors can verify it independently. We also work under a security management system with an ISO 27001:2022 surveillance audit.

How to start a custom project

  • A point person with decision-making authority.
  • Access to users and to current processes.
  • Clarity on the metrics that will define success.
  • A focused first version, then expanded in stages.

Frequently asked questions

What is custom software development?

It is the design and construction of a system built around the processes, users and goals of a specific organization.

How long does a project take?

It depends on the scope. The estimate is agreed on at the end of discovery.

Can you start with a first version?

Yes. It is a common practice: you launch a first version and then add features.

If you have an idea ready for this journey, tell us about your project and let's talk about how to take it to production.
